How to add stone siding
KB Article: Setting Up Stone Siding in SmartBuild
Summary:
This article covers the basic process for adding stone siding (panels/wainscot) in SmartBuild using texture maps. For full walkthrough, refer to the linked video.
1. Prepare Your Stone Image
-
Obtain an image of your stone product (example: Affinity Stone).
-
Crop the image cleanly:
-
Stay aligned with grout lines
-
Avoid overly large or unique stones that will repeat noticeably
-
-
Clean and resize the image for consistency.
2. Scale the Texture
-
SmartBuild uses image scaling (example: 512 pixels = 1 foot).
-
Adjust the image to match real-world size (ex: 3 ft tall panel).
-
Save the image once scaled correctly.
3. Upload to Texture Library
-
Go to Texture Library and upload your image.
-
Assign:
-
Name
-
Key/abbreviation
-
-
This becomes your selectable stone texture.
4. Create the Stone Material
-
Go to Setup Wizard → Materials.
-
Create or edit your stone product:
-
Define coverage size (ex: 39” x 39” per box/panel).
-
-
Add it to your Stone System (important step).
5. Assign Color Map
-
Apply your uploaded texture as the color map.
-
(Optional) Add a bump map, but color map is most important for visuals.
6. Test & Adjust Scaling
-
Apply stone to a model (ex: wainscot).
-
Check appearance:
-
If stones look too small/large → adjust scale.
-
Avoid obvious repeating patterns.
-
-
Fine-tune scaling until it looks realistic.
Final Notes
-
Stone uses repeating textures, so image quality and scaling matter.
-
Better image prep = more realistic final result.
