How to add shingles to your setup

Summary:
This article covers the basic setup for asphalt shingles in SmartBuild. For full walkthrough, refer to the linked video here: 

1. Create the Shingle Item

• Add a new material with:

  • SKU

  • Description

  • Coverage width (based on shingle exposure/height)

• Set the selling unit to bundles (recommended for accurate layout).

• Enter how many shingles are in each bundle (commonly ~21–22).

2. Configure Dimensions

• Set shingle height (exposure) based on your specs (ex: ~5”–6”).

• Set shingle length (ex: ~39” or ~3.25–3.33 ft in decimal format).

3. Add to a Shingle System

• Shingles should be part of a system.

• Assign the shingle material to that system so it can be used in designs.

4. Set Up Colors

• Go to Setup Wizard → Colors.

• Add each shingle color as a new material entry.

• Assign a texture map/image for each color.

• Apply proper scaling (most default images are already pre-scaled).

5. Images & Brands

• Use default images or request your specific brand (ex: Owens Corning, GAF).

• Custom images can be uploaded and scaled if needed.

Final Notes

• Once colors and textures are assigned, link them back to your shingle product.

• Your shingles will now display correctly in preview and design.
